Punteggio 92/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2019

The 2015 Pepper Bridge Vineyard from this terrific estate checks in as a blend of 46% Merlot, 31% Malbec, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up in 29% new French oak. Its saturated purple color gives way to a ripe, medium to full-bodied effort that gives up plenty of black cherry and plum fruits intermixed with notions of tobacco, lead pencil, and incense. With good complexity and ample charm, drink it over the coming 10-12 years, and I suspect it will keep even longer.

(39% new oak): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of brambly blueberry and blackberry, bitter chocolate and licorice. Wonderfully suave, lively wine with a chocolatey ripeness as well as higher-pitched clove and five-spice powder notes to its intense flavors of black and blue fruits and cherry stomp; like the other top 2015 reds at Pepper Bridge, this conveys an impression of sound acidity. Very Left Bank in style and balanced from the start. The average age of these vines is now 18 years, according to Pellet, with the crop level for this '15 around three tons per acre. (14.5% alcohol)
