Note di degustazione
Aged nine years now, the 2007 Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spätlese AP #2 has a super clear, minty, flinty and floral-flavored matured Riesling bouquet with lots of spices. Round and terribly lush on the palate, this is a generous, finessed and very elegant Spätlese with endless juiciness but also a firm tannin structure. This wine is in a perfect shape to drink today and will keep this performance for the next 15 to 20, probably more. It is super ripe and perfectly balanced and there is nothing that can stop it from showing very, very well.

From the original (i.e., pre-1971) Goldgrube, Vollenweider's 2007 Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spatlese A.P. #2 offers aromas of very ripe pear, musk melon, and grapefruit. Exuberantly fruit-filled, refreshing, yet satin-textured, this polished, mouth-filling Spatlese is scarcely less delicate than Vollenweider's Kabinett. A saline, savory, saliva-inducing finish scores extremely high on the saliva-inducing umami scale, and should be worth following for at least 8-10 years. -There wasn't much botrytis this year,- in contrast with 2006, explains Daniel Vollenweider, -but what there was, was high-quality- and informed two superb nobly sweet bottlings. The virtues of 2007 including clarity and elegance play right into Vollenweider's by now very sure stylistic hand, and it will be fascinating to see how this collection evolves over the years. Although I have attempted to my prognostications conservative, I am pretty confident that some of these wines will still be going strong long after I have shuffled off these mortal coils.
