From the northern part of the Vaucluse region (about an hour south of the Northern Rhone), the 2009 Michel Gassier Côtes du Rhone Villages Visan Cercius is a blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah that’s aged all in concrete. Showing upfront aromatics of both red and black fruits, pepper, spice, and garrigue on the nose, the wine is medium bodied, round, and straight up delicious. With good acidity, plenty of character, and a solid dose of tannin on the lengthy finish, this solid value a prime candidate for a house red and should be consumed over the coming 3-5 years.

The 2009 Cercius red, a Visan Cotes du Rhone-Villages, is composed of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah. It represents a naked expression of Cotes du Rhone as it is aged completely in concrete prior to bottling. This medium to full-bodied wine possesses a deep ruby/purple color in addition to copious black currant and black cherry fruit interwoven with graphite, crushed rocks, and spice, excellent fruit intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel, good acidity, and light tannins. It should drink nicely for 3-4 years.
