Note di degustazione
Opaque ruby. Sexy aromas of black raspberry, cherry-cola, Moroccan spices and lavender. Vibrant and precise on the palate, offering energetic red and dark berry flavors and a late note of bitter chocolate. Becomes more floral with air and finishes with notes of blackberry, vanilla bean and anise. This wine has put on weight and sweetness since I saw it last year.

Of the three village offerings from Tardieu-Laurent – the Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes, the Rasteau Vieilles Vignes, and the Gigondas Vieilles Vignes – the 2009 Vacqueyras has the most fat and corpulence and is the most vivid and purest expression of Grenache. It is a 10- to 15-year wine. (Not yet released) Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel. (707) 963-9661
Very ripe, burly nose. Rich spicy start to the tasting experience with a bit more flesh than most but even this carefully worked example has some pretty dry tannins on the finish. Supple relative to most however. Fairly satin textured and opulent. A bit of raisin and heat on the finish. (JR)
