Pure Magic almost always includes some Cab Franc-Cab Sauvignon co-ferments, but sourcing varies a bit from year to year. The 2022 Pure Magic includes fruit from Crane, To Kalon, Vine Hill Ranch and Melanson, and it comes across as unusually fine and elegant for the vintage. Raspberries, vanilla and a hint of bay leaf can be found on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is framed by fine-grained tannins that turn really silky on the lingering finish.

Darker berry fruits, smoked earth, spring flowers, and ample chocolaty oak notes all emerge from the 2022 TOR Pure Magic, a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot. It brings full-bodied richness and depth, sweet tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. It's one of the more powerful, opulent wines in the vintage, and while I love it today, it has plenty of tannins and I wouldn't be surprised to see this cruise for 15-20 years in cold cellars.
So sleek, elegant and concentrated, but supple and silky. This melts in the mouth, with blueberries, cream, mocha, creme de cassis, chocolate and mint. Full-bodied, gently tannic, nicely balanced and tempting to drink now. Totally delicious and luscious. Drinkable now, but best from 2029.
The 2022 Pure Magic is mostly Dr. Crane in this vintage, with some Melanson. It offers ample depth but also comes across as evolved and overripe. Cedar, tobacco, dried cherry, leather and incense emerge with air. The blend here feels precarious.
