The nose here projects such a ripe impression of white peach and kiwi, garlanded in mint and lily-of-the-valley, that one imagines a wine with sweetness -- which, however, this isn’t. Polished and with subtle impingement of residual CO2 accentuating impressions of refreshment, invigoration and buoyancy (at just 12.1 percent alcohol), this finishes with abundant primary juiciness, tang, tingling stone impingement and saliva-inducing salinity.

The white golden-colored 2015 Riesling Viesslinger Bruck is a fascinating Riesling from steep, small terraces on mica schist. Floral and stony on the delicate and elegant nose, this bouquet clearly indicates a cooler and stony origin. Medium-bodied, lean and very mineral on the palate, this is a fascinatingly pure and salty, highly elegant Riesling full of mineral tension, phenolic grip and crushing stones The finish is long and vitalizing, full of energy and great finesse. Highly intellectual, with 12% alcohol, this Bruck could never have been marketed as a Smaragd, but it is a great terroir Riesling and probably one of the most remarkable Rieslings in all Austria.
