Vinified in stainless steel and large oak vats to finish the fermentation, the 2019 Ried Heiligenstein Alte Reben 1ÖTW Kamptal Riesling offers a pure yet deep and complex bouquet with smoked aromas of figs and dates, vanilla, crushed stones and the purity of Riesling at its very best. Full-bodied, rich and very intense on the palate, this is a crystalline, dense, tight and grippy Riesling that is almost a bit astringent just now, with a very long and tight and salty finish but also a sustainable concentration of (stone) fruit. It is very stimulating, but the wine needs some years to unfolds all its talents. The Alte Reben version is definitely the richer version compared the Lyra, but I hesitate to say it's the better wine. 13% alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in June and at home in October 2021.

Sandstone. This has everything that the straight Bründlmayer Heiligenstein Riesling has, as well as a gentle floral note. A more creamy quality. On the palate, a little more severe in its acid profile, more searing intensity. Harder to taste now but surely destined for a very long life? (JH)
