Punteggio 95/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, May 2021

The 2018 Grenache Estate showed beautifully, with a complex, nuanced, exotic style. Lots of mulberry, wild strawberry, and plum fruits as well as incense, sandalwood, and herbes de Provence notes define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a terrific core of sweet fruit, firm, classic Red Mountain tannins and a distinct salinity and minerality on the finish. A brilliant Grenache that's shockingly good given it's from third leaf fruit. I'd say the future is indeed very bright for this estate. You can add WeatherEye Vineyards to the list of most exciting new developments in Washington. Located at the top of Red Mountain, WeatherEye Vineyard was purchased by Washington State wine advocate Cameron Myhrvold in 2004. Cameron quickly brought on Ryan Johnson to plant the vineyard and hired Todd Alexander to make the wines. The first vintage was 2018, and while the wines are already impressive, the best is unquestionably still to come. I believe there is already a waitlist (they don’t produce much), so don’t miss your chance.
