Bright violet. Heady, mineral-accented red and blue fruit, olive, incense and floral scents expand steadily as the wine opens up. Sweet and incisive on the palate, offering intense boysenberry, violet pastille and spicecake flavors and a touch of cola on the back half. Concentrated but lively, showing excellent closing focus, harmonious tannins and a building echo of juicy blue fruit.

Floral and lifted, with beautiful raspberries, spring flowers, potpourri and incense characteristics, the 2014 Côte Rôtie Viallière is medium-bodied, fresh and lively, with juicy acidity. It's another beautiful, elegant, seamless effort from this estate.
(raised in 25% new oak): Saturated ruby. Vibrant, mineral-accented dark berry, cherry and floral aromas are complicated by notes of incense and olive paste. Juicy, sharply focused bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors gain sweetness and spread out slowly with aeration. A suave violet pastille quality builds steadily on a very long, youthfully tannic finish, which leaves notes of blue fruit and spicecake behind. The marriage of power to finesse is pretty impressive here.
