Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2016-2031, Robert Parker, Mar 2016

The 2013 Pinot Noir Altamont, which comes from the hilltop parcels spread across the family’s 45 acres of estate vineyards, is a smaller production cuvée. It offers more intensity, plenty of black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, with hints of licorice, underbrush and forest floor. It is round, juicy, full-bodied, and again, very pure, with minimal oak showing. Drink it over the next 15+ years.

Punteggio 93+/100 · Da bere 2018-2028, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2016

As it usually is, the 2013 Pinot Noir Altamont is quite a bit more lifted and intensely aromatic than the Goldridge. Rose petal, mint, sweet red cherries and pomegranate open up first. The 2013 offers notable intensity allied to a real sense of energy that comes from the acid and tannin underpinnings. A dollop of whole clusters adds a closing touch of aromatic lift.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Altamont Vineyard is shaping up to be a gem. Here, too, the interplay of fruit, acidity and tannin is simply compelling. Ripe and voluptuous, yet with considerable supporting structure, the 2013 Altamont is vivid, intense and utterly compelling in its overall balance. The 2013 needs time to open up a bit in the glass, but it is hugely appealing, even today.
