2016 Hiedler Riesling Gasberg Kamptal Reserve

Crushed stone and sea breeze mingle with violets, thyme, pear and white peach on an alluring though understated nose. Lime and grapefruit emerge in juicy profusion on a silken palate, then convey refreshment and animation to a vibrantly sustained finish that features alluring inner-mouth perfume as well as mouthwatering salinity and invigoratingly crystalline mineral impingement. This bottling beautifully exemplifies a trait one often finds in Austrian Riesling: it starts out almost demurely, albeit enticingly, but finishes with an energetic, percussive crescendo.

Cork. This is more herbal and rocky than the Doll Gaisberg. Great purity and here the fruit sweetness is fully entwined with the mouth-watering acidity – maybe the cork has helped in the integration?

The 2016 Kammern Ried Gaisberg 1ÖTW Riesling is very clear, precise, fresh and smoky on the nose, indicating crystalline aromas of white and concentrated white stone and fresh citrus fruits intermixed with crushed stone flavors. Round, lush, pure and piquant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, gorgeously juicy, finessed and elegant Gaisberg with complexity, good concentration, fine tannins, tension and lingering salinity.
