Dark fruit and lots of spice – drying oak tannins and spice throughout. Full palate of flavour. Pert acidity – would benefit from more time in bottle to integrate brightness of the acidity and oak flavour. (ECB)

Bright violet color. Powerful cherry and red berry aromas are complicated by succulent herbs and rose. Taut and sharply focused, offering dense raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and an exotic touch of candied flowers. Delivers a suave blend of richness and vivacity and finishes with building spiciness and supple tannins.
Even better, and my favorite in the line (not by much), the 2012 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is incredibly fine and polished, with a medium-bodied, silky, yet energetic vibe that keeps you coming back to the glass. Loaded with notions of black raspberry, cherry blossom, white flowers and hints of underbrush, it has integrated acidity, fine tannin and a rocking finish. It should continue to impress over the coming 4-6 years, if not longer. This is another exciting new project that’s making incredible wines right out of the gate! A joint project between Bill Price (the owner of Classic Wines) and Price Family Vineyards, Lutum focuses on single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, with the wines made by Gavin Chanin. They’re pulling from some top-notch vineyards (Bien Nacido, La Encantada, Sanford & Benedict to name a few) and these beauties are worth checking out! www.lutumwines.com
The 2012 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is impeccable. Lavender, violet and cloves meld into a core of sweet black cherries as the 2012 opens up in the glass. Pliant, expressive and beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2012 stands out for its balance. There is a lot to like here.
