Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2018-2020, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, May 2018

Pale to medium gold in color, the 1998 Climens has a nose of chalk dust, lemongrass, straw and dried apples with hints of candied lemons and toasted almonds. The palate is a little tired and fading, with pleasant nutty/savory notions and a bit of dryness to the finish. Drink up!

TA 3.2 g/l (sulphuric). RS 86 g/l. Mid gold. Spicy linseed nose but also pure and peachy orange fruit. Delicate and much lighter in texture in the mouth and less intoxicating. Finesse, purity and delicacy on the finish and a bitter orange aftertaste to enhance the freshness, even though the acidity is (analytically) quite moderate.  (JH)

Relatively pale still. Very exotic tropical fruit notes on the nose! Really hits you between the eyes. Very opulent sweetness and just a hint of oak still. Toasted stuff – something almost New World about it – not that I have experienced a sweet Semillon this fine and complex from outside Bordeaux… Big yet satin-textured. Hint of liquorice. Very round with a burnt note on the finish. I am marking this down just because it is not ‘classic’ but it should give enormous pleasure and may well be the (sweet white bordeaux) wine of the vintage. (JR)
