Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2026-2038, Eric Guido, Vinous, Jan 2024

Mocha-tinged blackberries, earth tones, savory herbs and exotic spice form a dark and inward bouquet as the 2016 Red Wine evolves in the glass. Packed full of crisp red and black fruits, there’s a lift and vibrancy here that's impossible to ignore, all guided by mineral-tinged acidity. Hauntingly dark florals and nuances of chalk dust linger. The 2016 finishes with crystalline tannins that add a crunchy sensation throughout. This is the first year that the Red Wine was made from all estate fruit. It's a beautiful vintage of this cuvée in the making.

Deep purple-colored, with rocking notes of crème de cassis, crushed flowers, incense, vanilla bean, and chocolate, the full-bodied 2016 Red Wine has a rounded, opulent texture, sweet tannins, and a great finish. Based on 69% Cabernet Franc, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, aged 28 months in 65% new French oak, this powerful, super-rich, beautifully balanced blend is going to deliver the goods for at least 10-15 years. The team at Corliss continues to pretty much knock it out of the park in every vintage. These aren’t shy wines by any measure, yet they hold onto a terrific sense of elegance and freshness and are beautiful wines readers will love.

Saturated bright ruby. Aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry and sexy oak are accented by hints of tobacco leaf, herbs and pepper. Then backward and a bit sinewy but already impressively fine-grained and layered on the palate, with plum, dark berry and licorice flavors showing surprising fullness and a sexy early sweetness. Still, this comes across as cooler and more classic than the 2015 version, and it appears to possess the tannic spine for extended aging. Finishes with excellent mounting length. Winemaker Andrew Trio fermented about 20% of this wine in concrete, the rest in upright oak tanks. This wine features a higher percentage of Cabernet Franc than past vintages. (aged for 28 months in 65% new oak)

A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the 2016 Columbia Valley Red Wine has a core of soft red and black fruit on the nose, with a definitive line of minerality, followed by delicate florals and subtle savory aromas. The palate is bold, vibrant and focused, with round and voluptuous dark fruit that melts into a balanced tannic structure. The wine shows depth and breadth on the long, thought-provoking finish that possesses excellent focus. With fruit coming from all of the estate vineyards on Red Mountain, only 341 cases were made.
