In contrast to the elegance of the Vosne-Roman�es, the Clos Vougeot is a gear-shift � currently slightly square, with a structure that needs time and dense core of plush, dark fruit. It�s tightly wound but with spicy lift and impressive purity of bramble berries.

The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru feels a little flat on the nose. It doesn't have the buoyancy or vivacity of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins and fine acidity, but it is missing the precision and vivacity of its peers and has few ideas left by the finish. Given the poor score, I am not certain that this was the best bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Revealing aromas of plummy fruit mingled with peonies, rose petals, orange rind, exotic spices and incense, the 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is full-bodied, layered and textural, with a deep, concentrated core, bright acids and velvety structuring tannins. Concluding with a long, perfumed finish, it's another classic in the making.
