Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2016-2020, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Dec 2019

Jamet suggests the 2014 IGP Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah will drink well for another 5-10 years. I'm skeptical. Smoky, slightly floral (geranium?) notes appear on the nose, followed by cassis flavors on the silky, medium-bodied palate, finishing a bit short.

Deep ruby. Smoke-accented dark fruit and violet scents, along with musky earth and olive notes. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry, black currant and licorice flavors that unfold slowly on the back half. The slightly rigid finish features gripping tannins, a hint of smoked meat and lingering dark berry character.

The 2014 Valine is also solid, with more raspberry, underbrush and sappy flower notes, medium-bodied richness, and a juicy, lively style. It doesn’t have the depth of fruit of the 2015, yet has a classic, enjoyable style ideal for drinking over the coming 3-5 years. These are the first releases I’ve tasted from vigneron Jean-Luc Jamet, who left the family estate in 2013. His Côte Rôtie is slightly more accessible and forward than that of his brother Jean-Paul, yet is a beautiful wine that has plenty of classic Jamet character.
