The 2013 Pensées de Lafleur has a muted bouquet that pales against the 2010 that is tasted alongside. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannin, a little pinched on the mid-palate with a grippy, tobacco-infused finish that just shows a little abruptness. Tasted at the Christies’ Lafleur masterclass in London.

59% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Franc. Light nose and a bit pinched on the end but there is lots of surprisingly luscious fruit too. I tasted this next to the Ch Lafleur 2013 and it didn’t suffer too much. In fact, it was much more fun to drink. (JR)
Tasted blind. Mid garnet. Leafy, graphite aroma. Quite woody on the palate but the freshness is nice. Just a bit lacking in fruit depth. Lean but elegant. (JH)
The 2013 Les Pensees de Lafleur has a fragrant bouquet with red cherries, strawberry and a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied and well balanced, with slightly chalky tannin and decent depth of fruit, fresh and lively with an easy-going but quite edgy finish. Enjoy this Pensées de Lafleur over the next 6-8 years.

The Société Civile du Ch. Lafleur is the collective name for the Guinaudeau family’s wines and estates. These are some of the Right Bank’s most famous wines, including Ch. Lafleur and Les Pensées in Pomerol, along with Les Perrières, Les Champs Libres and Ch. Grand Village in Fronsac.
