Performing slightly less impressively than I predicted in 2008, the 2006 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard offers up notes of sassafras/root beer, black cherries, underbrush, clove and cinnamon. This dark ruby-hued, spicy, earthy effort is still intact and promising. The tannins and depth suggest it could easily evolve for another decade. It just seemed less interesting than the other wines in this incredible vertical flight of Brewer-Clifton-s Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard.

Hazy, medium red. Intensely flora bouquet of dried red berries, smoked meat, minerals and musky herbs. Strawberry and cherry flavors are complemented by floral pastille and Asian spices, with silky tannins adding support. Already showing impressive complexity, not to mention excellent finishing lift and cling. The most elegant of these pinots.
