Moderately saturated medium red. Strawberry, animal fur and coffee on the slightly liqueur-like nose. Fat, sweet, ripe and full but less nuanced than the some of Patrick Landanger's 2012s from the Côte de Beaune. Savory, soil-driven Chambolle with hints of dark berries and licorice. Finishes seriously tannic but with a slight dry edge.

Bright red-ruby. Enticing, subdued nose hints at blackberry, boysenberry, violet, chocolate and wild herbs; showing the dark side of Chambolle. Then sweet, savory and serious on the palate, with very good tactile depth to its dark berry and chocolate flavors. The largest-scaled and sweetest of the Chambolle premier crus at this address, with good underlying mineral energy to support its chocolatey ripeness.
The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes is the most massive and structured of the four Chambolle 1er Crus. Dark red stone fruits, smoke, licorice and spices fill out the wine's broad shouldered frame nicely. Today, the tannins are a bit raw, while the overall sensation is of a wine that needs time to come together. Readers need to be patient here.
