Showing even better today than on release and from such a great vintage for the region, the 2015 Saint Joseph displays a still youthful ruby/plum hue as well as classic Saint-Joseph aromatics of red and black fruits, peppery herbs, scorched earth, and leather. It's medium-bodied and has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe yet integrated tannins, and a great finish. It's clearly in its prime drinking window yet has another decade of longevity. Drink 2026-2036. I love the wines of Domaine des Pierres Seches. However, a handful of these latest releases all showed funky, off aromas and flavors, all tasted from multiple bottles. Caution is certainly advised here.

With the exception of two corked samples of the regular Saint Joseph rouge, this domaine performed extraordinarily in my blind tastings. The 2015 Saint Joseph Sainte Epine boasts an attractive blend of cherries, herbs and spice on the nose, then follows that up with admirable complexity on the palate and a long, savory finish tinged with black olives and tar. But the most exciting thing about this wine is its superb texture: creamy, lush and yet nearly weightless.
