The 2012 Bourgneuf is all about texture. Silky tannins convey an impression of creaminess in a racy Pomerol that holds considerable appeal. Smoke, grilled herbs, menthol, cedar, earthiness and tobacco wrap around the creamy, expansive finish. Above all else, the 2012 speaks to finesse and textural elegance, all in a restrained, classic style.
This is a positive and forceful effort from Bourgneuf, which tends to produce tannic and rustic wines. The 2012 is neither astringent, earthy nor too rustic. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of black currants, black cherries, cola, forest floor and coffee beans. Fresh and medium to full-bodied with excellent concentration and a nicely textured, clean finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 10-15 years.
