Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2019-2036, Mark Squires, Jun 2018

The 2014 Lost Mountain (the brand with a nod to Bordeaux's Left Bank) is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with 16% Cabernet Franc and 12% Merlot as blending grapes. It was aged for 22 months in 80% new French oak and comes in at 14.3% alcohol. This is a tighter, sterner wine than the Rendezvous (the Right Bank blend), and the flavor profile is dramatically different too. Here, you get an old Pichon Lalande style, with herbs, a pleasing bit of olive and a beautiful finish. The winemaking team claimed that this was shut down and would get better. We'll see. The more concentrated 2015, which is mostly about potential just now, will eventually surpass this, but it's going to be fun tracking both and seeing where they go. At the moment, this fresher 2014 drinks better. They are both special.

72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot. Mid blueish crimson. Not that much on the nose – it’s all on the end. Savoury and slightly vegy and much more bordelais than the West Coast Cabs but there is a lot of interest here. Easy to overlook because it is so subtle. Very clean. Not heavy or sweet. (JR)

Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2019-2030, Jancis Robinson MW, Oct 2017

72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot. All dry farmed in 2014 when harvest was from 24 September until 2 October. Deep crimson. Very refreshing, already well integrated nose. Neat and layered with fairly marked freshness but a deep undertow. Something reminds me of pomegranate. More Bordelais than anything American, as perhaps one should expect of a wine with Eric Boissenet at consultant. The persistence is really quite amazing but clearly there is still much more to come beforehand. Bravo! (JR)
