The 2012 Diamond Bar, 100% Syrah from Fair Play, is an addition to the range. Dark rich and powerful to the core, the 2012 races across the palate with marvelous density. White flowers, crushed rocks, lavender and purple/black fruit blossom in a dark, brooding wine long on personality and pure class. This is a fabulous first effort. These high-altitude, granite-rich soils yield a wine of pedigree and personality.

(100% syrah, from south-facing vines planted on decomposed granite in the early 1990s): Deep ruby-red. Lively aromas of black cherry, licorice and orange zest. Densely packed and energetic, conveying a strong impression of minerality to go with its dark fruit, licorice and bitter chocolate flavors. In a distinctly powerful, penetrating style, finishing with muscular tannins that will need time in bottle to resolve. But the wine's saline and floral finishing notes suggest that it will reward patience.
