Côte Rôtie-like notions of spring flowers, smoked black fruits, and ground pepper, as well as some gamey notes, emerge from the 2017 Syrah Diamond Bar. Coming from the Skinner Family Vineyard outside of Fair Play, this medium to full-bodied, elegant, seamless red has a sumptuous texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. It’s going to keep for a decade.

Made of 100% Syrah from the Skinner vineyard, the 2017 Syrah Diamond Bar aged 18 months in 30% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it struts out of the glass with flamboyant black cherry compote, raspberry coulis and blackberry pie scents followed by suggestions of Chinese five spice, red roses and powdered cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy, it has bold freshness and loads of spicy layers with an herbal lift to the finish. Only 75 cases were made.
