1979 Château La Tour Haut-Brion

Mid crimson with some blue notes still. Not especially intense on the nose. Very well melded but so well mannered that it doesn’t make too much impact. Furry finish – pretty rough tannins and I can’t really see that the fruit is ever going to triumph over them. The wine has surely peaked. A little awkward and angular. Sweet but relatively simple after an hour in the glass – there was even a hint of slightly sweet oak still.
