Bright, dark red. Deep aromas of black cherry, smoke, chocolate, mocha and wild herbs hint at the coolness of a late harvest. Smooth, bright and light on its feet, conveying lovely inner-mouth tension to its red cherry and spice flavors. Not a big wine (this was more musclebound from barrel in the autumn of 2014) but lively and vintage-typical.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes is reticent on the nose at first, but unfolds with aeration to reveal brisk red cherries and wild strawberry fruit interlaced with orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, a fine line of acidity, cohesive and focused with a long-sustained, lightly spiced finish. This is showing more class than its white counterpart. Tasted June 2015.
(this monopole was planted in the 1950s): Bright, deep red. Musky dark berries lifted by pungent crushed-stone minerality on the nose. In a muscular, youthfully tight style, with a distinctly medicinal character to its black fruit and fresh herb flavors. Less pliant and deep than the Brûlées. Tannins are firm and chewy but not rustic.
Second vintage. Louis-Michel is confident that within a couple more years this will be very exciting. Dark crimson, not nearly as expressive on the nose as some of the Vosnes. Racy and pleasant and jolly but it lacks real precision. Some flattering depth though. (JR)
