Punteggio 88/100 · Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. Following on from the excellent offering from Louis Jadot, this 2012 Corton Charlemagne from Domaine de Montille does not deliver the same nuance or complexity. There are very light touches of wild mint but it comes across as flighty. The palate is balanced, primal and forward, two rather than three dimensional with a linear finish that does not stick in the memory and feels rather short. De Montille made some great 2012s, but I am not entirely convinced that this is one of them.

Bright, pale straw-yellow. Knockout high-pitched aromas and flavors of white peach, lavender, fleur de sel and mint. Sweet, tactile and superconcentrated, boasting superb floral lift and inner-mouth perfume. Finishes adamantly dry, tight and extremely long, with outstanding energy and verve. I would not be surprised if this wine merited an even higher rating seven or eight years down the road.

Doesn’t seem as expressive as their Meursault Les Narvaux at this early stage, although it has lots of fruit concentration – almost sour, in fact. Fruit power is clearly a house style – and here it’s a shame there isn’t more secondary character. This may come with age? (RH)

Pale gold. Quite soft and round after the Puligny. Sweet and a little too relaxed perhaps? Some herbs in there but sweetness dominates. (JR)
