Punteggio 15.5/20 · Da bere 2016-2018, Jancis Robinson MW, Oct 2017

A little muddier than the Sons of Sugarland example. Not as obviously varietal but a fair, balanced red rather than definitely a Syrah. (JR)

Salty-fresh aromas. Very sweet start but not sickly. Suave and flattering. Does taste like (hot climate) Syrah… Very smooth. (JR)

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2018-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2017

Full dark red. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, black plum, mocha, dried flowers, crushed black pepper and spices. At once sweet, dense and juicy, offering a fine-grained texture and no rough edges to its dark berry, coffee and spice flavors. This very firmly built, dense, lively wine will need a few years to express itself. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and lovely black pepper lift.

The 2014 Syrah comes from eight different vineyards and was the lowest whole bunch percentage (30%) thus far. It has a ripe mulberry-scented bouquet with hints of marmalade and quince developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet red berry fruit on the entry: raspberry, black pepper, a touch of sage and black pepper. Perhaps I prefer vintages with a little more whole bunch that can lend more character on the finish, but it displays satisfying length and will drink well for several years.
