Charming and expressive, Bachelet's 2017 Côte de Nuits-Villages is showing well from bottle, bursting with aromas of berries, cherries and plums, complemented by notes of forest floor and a deft application of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with lively acids and an open-knit core of fruit. This will drink well young.

The 2017 Côtes de Nuits Village, which comes from vines located around Brochon, sees around 20% new oak. It has a very pure and generous bouquet with dark cherries, hints of boysenberry and light violet scents. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin, perfect acidity, silky smooth in texture with a long and tender, pure finish. Simply, Côte de Nuits does not get better than this.
Quite high up the slope above Brochon. 40% new oak. Dusty dark fruit on the nose and quite reserved. But on the palate much more exuberant. Beautifully fresh and that lovely purity of fruit. Gently chewy, satisfying and more lively on the palate than on the nose. Juicy at the core and the oak well in the background. (JH)
