Tor is in a small section of the Hyde vineyard in Carneros, planted to what Larry Hyde calls his "Small Cluster" clone. "I stood in line for these grapes for 14 years, and I think you will agree the wait was well worth it," claimed Tor. “There's not much crop from these vines, but stunning wine. There is only about 20% new oak on this vineyard, and it is made up of the cooper Saury.” The 2016 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard features grapefruit, lemon curd, apricots and chalk dust with touches of nutmeg and white pepper. Full-bodied, decadent and honeyed with citrus and honeyed peaches flavors, it has a pleasantly oily texture and a long, spicy finish. 75 cases produced.

This is a very tight and balanced white with a creamy texture. Full-bodied, rich and bright. A solid center palate. Love the mouthfeel and balance here. Touch of smoke. Excellent structure. Drink or hold.
Tor's 2016 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is a gorgeous wine that shows the more understated side of this famed site. There is plenty of Hyde texture and oiliness in the glass, while the fruit tends towards more of the citrus/lemon peel end of the spectrum as opposed to the more tropical profile that is common here.
