A smaller production release, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from the Phinny Hill, Bacchus, and Loess vineyards. Its similar ruby/plum color is followed by slightly darker notes of currants, leafy tobacco, truffle, gravelly earth, and smoked meats. It too is medium-bodied, has good concentration, lots of underlying structure, and outstanding length. It's tighter and more tannic than the base appellation release and warrants 3-4 years of bottle age, but it's going to have an easy two decades of longevity.

Blended with 5% Merlot, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve starts with a dark-fruited core of blackberry jus, dusty plum skin and spiced cherry compote with hints of brown baking spices from 45% new French oak. Full-bodied, firm and tannic with a rustic nature, the Reserve Cabernet is incredibly food-friendly with a spicy and mineral-focused palate that is hedonistic and offers excellent action with a ripe attack, showing succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins. The wine continues to reveal juicy, bold, fresh fruit tones with dusty floral essences that will remain food-friendly for decades. This will be a juggernaut for years to come. Give it another year or two in the bottle, and decant for 30 minutes before consuming. What a fantastic and generously layered, hedonistic Cabernet. Bravo! 3,120 bottles produced.
More savory than sweet, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve smolders up from the glass with notes of rich plum sauce, grilled sage and crushed violets. It's silky and refined on the palate, communicating a lovely elegance, as a blend of saline-minerals and vividly ripe blackberry fruits find a cooling balance through a hint of cola. The 2019 combines staining concentration and regal tannins that create a youthfully poised yet classic style, as violet-tinged black fruits slowly fade. The cool-toned feel and harmonious structure within will carry the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve well into the next decade.
