Good full red. Captivating aromas of blackberry, blueberry, violet and white pepper. Suave on entry, then sappy and silky in the middle palate, with superb lift and precision to the flavors of wild dark berries and flowers. Offers an uncanny combination of power, complexity and gracefulness. About as far from the compact, thick Ruchottes (which is like a big steak) as a wine could be. Wonderfully fine-grained wine with a finish that's like the second stage of a booster rocket. This will probably be at its best between 2012 and 2025.
Super-fruity seductive aroma with more body than the Ruchottes. Rounder, more beguiling. Spreads across the palate. Exceptionally fine tannins. Very complete nose. Roumier says that at this stage Amoureuses is so aromatically powerful that it can easily dominate the entire cellar. Stunning. (JR)
