The 1991 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru is fully mature on the nose with brambly red berry fruit, undergrowth, and hints of citrus peel and yuzu in the background that lend plenty of vim. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft entry. More like a 1990 in some ways, but there is fine grip, a little dryness creeping in on the back palate with tobacco notes gathering pace towards the finish. This is certainly commendable given its age. Tasted at the Méo-Camuzet dinner at Arbor in Hong Kong.

Meo's 1991 Nuits St.-Georges-Les Meurgers is stunning, even better than the super 1990. With a deep, saturated, ruby/purple color, and a fragrant, perfumed nose of sweet black fruits, herbs, licorice, and flowers, this deep, medium to full-bodied, rich, sweet, expansively flavored wine possesses enough structure to warrant leaving a few bottles in the cellar for the next 3 years and drink them between 1996-2006. It is an exceptionally fine burgundy, as well as another example of a 1991 that turned out richer and more complete than the 1990. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Rafael, CA. NOTES ON THE 1992s FROM BARREL: Meo's 1992s are among the most successful wines made in the Cote de Nuits in that vintage. They are even softer than the 1991s, with excellent concentration for the vintage.
