2018 Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cherbaudes 1er Cru

Fresh pomegranate-juice nose but woody herbs and bay-leaf spicy and dry on the palate. Grippy; all punctuation marks and staccato on the palate. Sour cherry playing piccolo. Ruby-glass shards through such magnificent complexity of spice that I actually mixed up ras al hanout, baharat and za'atar to see if I was just making this up in my head, but this wine carries these complex wonderful spices like ballast and sails. Top notes, bass notes. Pure sour cherry in the middle. Long, effortlessly elegant and pretty glorious. (TC)
