The 2019 Chardonnay Powder House was quite refined when it was a young wine. Since then, it has developed into a much more powerful, dense Chardonnay. It’s still very youthful, though, a wine of structure. Chardonnay of structure. Savory herbs, crushed flowers, menthol and spice are all front and center, while fruit is pushed into the background. There’s great depth here, and tons of class to boot.

Aromas of stone fruit, baked lemon, dried flowers, jasmine tea and baking spice. Full-bodied with a well-grounded, savory palate of baked citrus, nutmeg and dried lily. A charming note of chamomile, too. Earthy, herbaceous finish. Just lovely.

The Aubert wines, particularly the Chardonnay, have a cult following – beloved for their rich, hedonistic style. Created by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 1999, the property makes some of California’s most sought-after Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, all from single vineyards across Sonoma.
