The 2016 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese (AP 20 17) has a super intense bouquet of perfectly ripe and concentrated Riesling berries. Lush and round, this is a mouth-filling and decadent Spätlese that is almost obscene in its juiciness. It's highly elegant, finessed, fine and piquant but also generous and intense, with persistent structure and mineral expression.

The nose delights with site-typical scents of fresh apple, honeysuckle and heliotrope. The palate is creamy and rich to the point of being custardy, yet delicate, brimming with juicy fresh apple, and incorporating an invigorating, ideally integrated tart chew of apple and pear skin. This poised, polished, persistent performance is enhanced by estate-typical restraint in the residual sugar department. While less richly concentrated than the corresponding "one-star” offering, it’s clearer, more refined, and much more refreshing.
