Deep bright red. Expressive aromas of red berries and red cherry are complicated by smoke and spicy oak and lifted by a floral topnote. Silky and highly concentrated, offering superb verve and a slightly high-toned character to its penetrating red fruit, crushed rock and spice flavors. This very suave Chambolle premier cru boasts superb richness of texture. "Always the highest in volatile acidity" [it's 0.58], notes Marie-Andree Mugneret. An outstanding vintage for this cuvee.

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes is surprisingly deep and rich in this vintage. The early appeal of Chambolle doesn't quite come through as it usually does here, but that actually bodes very well for the future. There is a gorgeous centeredness and precision to the fruit that is quite striking. Dark cherries, flowers and spices wrap around the textured, inviting finish.

Sisters Marie-Andree and Marie-Christine Mugneret had a tough harvest in 2010. For starters, the December frost wiped out a hectare of Vosnes villages just behind the winery. The vineyard has been replanted and will be used for the Bourgogne until it reaches the age necessary for it to once again be part of the villages bottling. Overall production is 22,000 bottles versus the more normal 34,000. As for the wines, well, they are magnificent. The same holds true for the 2009s, which I will report on in the next issue. Bright, deep red. Tangy red cherry and raspberry aromas are complicated by high-pitched spices, flowers and crushed rock. Sweet, bright and penetrating, but with good supple density giving a seamless texture to the middle palate. In fact, this is quite creamy for the vintage, in spite of its brisk acidity. Spreads out nicely to coat the mouth on the long, perfumed, gripping aftertaste. A terrific vintage for this cuvee .
