Saturated, youthful medium red. High-pitched aromas of red raspberry, blackberry, violet, mint and pine cone. Tightly wound, powerfully fruity and extremely young--almost '96-like--in its primary character but with a mintiness I did not find in that wine. With aeration, smoky red fruits and minerals emerge to carry through a very long, rising finish. Jean-Nicolas Meo told me that mildew and high acidity were issues in 1993 but not rot. Remarkably vibrant and short of its peak at nearly 20 years of age.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 1999-2015, Robert Parker, Aug 1995

The two premier crus from Vosne-Romanee are outstanding wines. The Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees, made from 30 hectoliters per hectare, exhibits a dark ruby/purple color, and a sweet nose of black fruits nicely complemented by toasty, smoky new oak. Medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, and in need of 4-5 years of cellaring, it should drink well for 10-15 years. Yes, it does have that smoky characteristic, which is no doubt one of the reasons for this vineyard's name. Meo-Camuzet's 1993s are unquestionably successes for the vintage. All the wines were bottled in April, 1995 without fining or filtration. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 524-1524
