The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a quietly impressive nose with precise, minerally red berry fruit and hints of tomato vine in the background. Returning after ten minutes, the whole clusters come through strongly and might be off-putting to some as they impart a greenness. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Again, quite raw and herbaceous (stemmy) towards the finish, although if you like your Clos Vougeot on the "peppery" side, then you might like this more. This is all about conjecture. If those stems do manage to fully assimilate, then this could be blindingly good but if not… Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru leans more towards black fruit on the nose, touches of pressed iris flower and light graphite aromas. The palate is well balanced and incorporates the 75% whole clusters well. Grainy tannins, very focused, quite mineral-driven with a persistent saline finish. Excellent.
The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is the most reserved wine in the cellar, unwinding in the glass with aromas of plums, cherries, sweet spices and blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with a layered but tightly wound core, it will reward some bottle age.
