Punteggio 91+/100 · Da bere 2021-2031, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2015

Bright ruby-red. Cassis, black cherry, graphite, cocoa powder and minerals on the nose and palate. Plush and sweet on entry, then distinctly backward in the middle palate, with the dark berry flavors complicated by a note of chocolate mint. This youthfully uncompromising Cabernet finishes with big, chewy, oak-powered tannins and a faintly tart edge. Still painfully young and in need of several years of aging to harmonize. (A second bottle was even more tannic.)

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 3% Merlot and Petit Verdot. Fruit from a combination of two vineyards: McQueen Vineyard Cabernet grown at 1,400 ft (427 m) elevation; a wind-exposed site offering smaller berries with concentrated flavour and a strong structural focus; and Healy, vines grown in a more protected site with deeper soils offering fleshier flavours. Part of the SeVein development. Dark aromatics and palate. Dusty, earthy and herbal on a body of dark fruit. Concentrated flavour with persistent tannins and balancing acidity for a long dry finish. Another killer wine from the collaboration between Chris Figgins and Drew Bledsoe, there are 3,000 cases of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon and it offers sensational notes of tobacco leaf, lead pencil shavings, graphite and sweet cassis on the nose. This is followed up by a full-bodied, concentrated, and still elegant 2012 that has lots of tannin, beautiful purity of fruit and a seamless texture that keep you coming back to the glass. Made from 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot, aged 20 months in 83% new French oak, give this rocking 2012 3-4 years in the cellar and enjoy it through 2032+.
