A dark, sumptuous beauty, the 2012 is primary and quite seamless for a Howell Mountain wine. Dark blue and black fruit, grilled herbs, menthol, sweet tobacco and licorice are all layered into the gracious finish. There is a lot to like in 2012, especially its fleshiness and early accessibility. This mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for the next 10-15 years or so.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is a 650-case, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 75% new French oak and 25% in older oak. True to the vintage, it is dramatic, ostentatious, savory and opulent. Its dense purple color is accompanied by sweet blackberry and blackcurrant fruit intermixed with notions of graphite, chocolate and vanillin. Lush, pure and voluptuously textured, it is an irresistible Cabernet to drink over the next 12-15+ years.
(just blended the day before my visit): Saturated ruby-red. Very pure but reticent aromas of dark berries, black plum and minerals. Plush, silky and ripe, with terrific thickness supported by ripe acids and tannins. In a very warm style, but has the depth and stuffing for balance. Very long on the aftertaste. Outstanding potential.
Outpost's Cabernet Sauvignon is once again striking in 2012. The aromas and flavors are bursting with intensity. A wine of nuance and detail, but with plenty of 2012 vintage intensity, the Cabernet flows across the palate with layers of blue/blackish fruit, mint, violets, lavender and white flowers. A juicy, generous finish adds a flair of raciness to a Cabernet Sauvignon with tremendous near-term appeal.
