Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2022-2045, Neal Martin, Oct 2022

The 2007 Château de Rayne-Vigneau offers pure peach, apricot and quince on the nose; this is fairly nuanced at first and nicely focused. The palate is well balanced with a light tang of marmalade on the entry, very cohesive with notes of quince, orange rind and hints of ginger emerging with time in the glass. Well-defined and focused on the finish, this lingers in the mouth. This is a classy Sauternes that is probably now à point . Tasted at the 2007 horizontal in Sauternes.

The Rayne-Vigneau 2007 seems initially unsettled by the performance of the 2006, on first acquaintance more closed and taciturn. Leaving it to one side, over the following 15 minutes it flowers and offers very attractive scents of white peach, apricot and lemon curd. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity. It is a little compact and unresponsive toward the finish, but there is certainly impressive focus. It is just a Sauternes wine that needs to say more, so I suggest another two or three years in the cellar because there is immense potential. Drink 2015-2025+ Tasted April 2013.

Light gold. Floral nose. Good weight and an edge of lime. Manages to be racy as well as heavyweight. Still quite chewy. (JR)
