This wine has always been relatively tight and unforthcoming, yet it continues to show no signs of drying out or fading. It is a solidly built, tightly knit, muscular d'Issan with good color, a dusty, almost coarse fruitiness, and some rough tannins in the finish. I had expected this wine to display greater evolution by now, but it seems to be suspended in time. My question has always been whether the fruit would outlast the tannins, and I am beginning to think it will not. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000. Last tasted, 3/89.
