Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2021-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2023

The 2001 Vecina is dark, powerful and brooding, it always has been. Savory herbs, iron, tobacco, leather and menthol play off a core of intense dark red fruit, with potent tannins that wrap it all together. Like all the BOND wines, the Vecina shows the massively extracted style that was in vogue at the time. Ultimately, the 2001 has aged on its brawn, but I found it more compelling a few years ago than it is today.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2034, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jun 2020

Dark ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, blackberry, mocha and licorice. Concentrated, dense and fully ripe, conveying a much more pliant texture today than the 2002. But this is also sappy, fine-grained and nicely delineated, with its dark berry and black cherry fruit flavors given shape by a brooding element of savory minerality. Not hugely sweet, though, and clearly less liqueur-like than the 2002. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that should carry this wine for at least another 15 years.

Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2018-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2017

Surprisingly, the 2001 Vecina comes across as quite subdued in this tasting, both for the vintage and compared to the other BOND wines. Graphite, smoke, cured meats and a host of dark-toned fruits build into the huge finish.
