Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2024-2044, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Oct 2023

Deep colour for a 2017 Margaux, a reflection of the small 25hl/h yield after frost. Enjoyable, skilful winemaking capturing the signature of the estate, more Lascombes than appellation signature in its character, with seductive brambled fruits, clear grilled cocoa bean, liqourice, smoked caramel and blackberry. Harvest September 20 to October 5. New oak reduced at this point to 50%, yield just 25hl/h after frost. Delphine Barboux technical director.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Boldly seasoned with toasty oak, there is a plushness of fruit on the nose. This is matched on the palate, but here the addition of wood tannin adds a bitterness that upsets the balance at the moment. There is good fruit underneath, so it may simply need time to settle, but for now the notes of clove and charred wood are dominant. (TP)

The 2017 Lascombes is dark, plush and sumptuous, as it so often is. A wine with no hard edges and tons of immediacy, Lascombes will be hard to resist pretty much upon release. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, menthol, licorice and lavender infuse the 2017 with striking depth as well as character. Readers should expect a racy, unapologetically flamboyant style.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Lascombes leaps from the glass with black raspberries, mulberries and blackcurrant pastilles with hints of earth, herbs, meats and cedar. Medium-bodied, it has plenty of juicy fruit and is fresh and plush, finishing long with a mineral lift.
