Some depth here on the nose and there is power here too. A touch of burnt sugar and chocolate. And lots going on in the mouth. This is well-engineered and has the stuffing to cope with it. A points kind of wine, but a good one. Joss Fowler, FINE+RARE, April 2015.

The 2014 Pape Clément has a more opulent and showier bouquet than the Domaine de Chevalier tasted alongside, with red berry fruit, sandalwood, Indian spices and high-toned blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and layered black fruit laced with black pepper, cedar and spice box. The finish conveys more panache than the aromatics, with a palpable sense of control and focus on the finish. Classy. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.
Tasted blind. Mid garnet. Lovely perfume of dark fruit and a touch floral and leafy. Definite acidity but the tannins are fine, resolving well, and it’s a complete whole. (JH)
Inky depths to the colour, this was the old school Pape Clement era, with big extraction, but the restrained character of the 2014 vintage has given a pared back wine that is totally charming at the ten year point, with smoky grilled oak notes alongside sweet damson, charred raspberry puree, a ton of grilled orange peel, balanced by satin tannins. Heavy bottle.
