Served blind with many a guess volunteered from the guests in the Ritz dining room at the launch of La Grande Année 2018. Disgorged 2008. Served with savoury egg custard, parmesan and black truffle. Rich nose, very ripe fruit on the palate. An initial cheesiness on the nose gave way to truffles and signature Bollinger mushrooms. Good for current drinking! Or even food matching. (JR)

Magnum. Disgorged 2003. Very late picked with high acid (8 g/l). 63% Pinot Noir. Malo unfinished. Orangey gold. Smoky nose. Hint of the flesh of orange segments. Round and quite evolved. Round and almost fleur d’oranger. Quite delicate for a Bollinger. Lightly chewy on the end with a hint of quinine. Very interesting. Definite apple flavours! (JR)
Bright greenish yellow. Sweet, rich, Pinot-like and full on the nose. Dense and a little green on the finish. Not fine – still a bit coarse and astringent. (JR)
