Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2023-2032, Neal Martin, Aug 2023

The 2013 Cos d'Estournel offers vestiges of red fruit mixed with leather and mocha on the nose. It is undeniably a little rustic, but the aromatics have charm. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Balanced, though, it lacks amplitude, rounded and pastille-like with cassis on the finish. It's bold for the vintage but might pale well after a couple of glasses. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Looks more evolved than the Montrose. Though it glows with health. Very ambitious and as though determined not to be blighted by 2013's disadvantages. There is still quite a bit of tannin as well as fruit so it's probably one of the longer-lasting 2013s. (JR)

The tannins maintain a firm grip on the frame, even a touch of youthful austerity which I have not found in many wines in the line up, this still feels like they can carry the cassis and blueberry fruit further. Edges of bitter chocolate, there is character to this wine, good quality, but abrupt on finish. Harvest 27 September and 10 October at 26.3hl/ha

Blended of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2013 Cos d'Estournel opens with notes of sautéed herbs, roast beef, potpourri, eucalyptus and crushed rocks over a core of redcurrant jelly, crushed blackcurrants, kirsch and violets. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers lovely freshness and a good amount of depth, textured by a chewy frame and finishing long and mineral tinged.
