A wine I underrated on release, the 2014 St Joseph Le Berceau Blanc is just a sensational effort, from a vintage where the white continue to gain in stature and depth. White peach, buttered citrus, honeysuckle and beautiful minerality all emerge from this crisp, elegant, yet still rich and lengthy white that’s just an utter joy to drink. It’s hard to resist today, but will keep for another 10-15 years. Bravo to this estate that is certainly on the top of their game!

Limpid yellow. Energetic citrus pith, pear, jasmine and mineral scents are complemented by deeper notes of smoky lees and honey. Densely packed Meyer lemon, orange and pear skin flavors are sharpened by a suggestion of dusty minerals, and the mineral note returns on the back half. Finishes juicy and sharply focused, with resonating floral and mineral notes and excellent persistence.
Always a step up over the classic cuvee, the 2014 Saint Joseph Le Berceau Blanc is a bigger, richer wine that still plays in the overall elegant, crisp style of the estate. White peach, stone fruits, citrus blossom and a Burgundian-like toastiness all emerge from this gorgeously layered, pure, elegant white. It needs a year in bottle, but will have 10-15 years of longevity.
(made from vines planted as far back to the 1920s and averaging just over 60 years of age; 20% new oak): Vivid yellow. An intensely perfumed bouquet displays scents of nectarine, passion fruit, honeysuckle and bergamot, along with a bright mineral overtone. Silky, gently sweet pit and tropical fruit flavors show very good depth, with a gingery nuance that adds energy and cut. A suave floral quality emerges on the smooth, mineral-laced finish, which hangs on with striking tenacity.
