Scents of buddleia, almond extract and white peach soar from the rim of the glass. Like the corresponding Magdalenenkreuz, this exhibits chiffon-like delicacy and subtle creaminess, but wafting inner-mouth floral perfume and mouthwatering salinity that meet luscious peach and crenshaw melon on the palate combine for allure that testifies to a superb, slatey site. The long-lingering finish here is another of those from 2014 that sooths even as it stimulates and refreshes.

Very clear and precise, with stony and discreet, rather coolish fruit aromas on the nose opens the 2014 Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Spätlese. Medium-bodied, juicy, lovely, piquant and salty, this is an elegant and well structured, grippy Riesling that is still young but has very good aging potential. This is a typical, light, piquant, light-hearted and frisky Rheingau Riesling. Highly recommend.
More savoury and mineral on the nose than fruity. For now at least. Just a touch of mushroom. Then pure sweetish citrus on the palate. Despite the sweetness this is feather light and very precise. (JH)
